Job Summary:
- The firmware engineer’s main function is to design and develop firmware for new and existing life science imaging cameras. This individual will also provide support to Hardware and Manufacturing Engineering to troubleshoot and validate camera operation and performance. Additionally the firmware engineer will work closely with OEM sales and customers to optimize the implementation of our products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, document and test firmware for life science cameras.
- Enhance and support existing code and products.
- Collaborate with and support Hardware and Manufacturing Engineering in root cause analysis of camera issues and participate in providing solutions.
- Develop and implement test code to verify camera performance at manufacture.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering in the implementation of various test methodologies.
- Provide technical support to Field Support organization in resolving software field issues.
- Provide technical support to the Sales organization regarding camera operation and performance.
Required Skills and Experience
- BS degree in technical field is required, MS or higher degree preferred.
- Extensive microcontroller experience required, familiarity with the ATMEGA class processors (ATMEGA 128) is preferred.
- Understanding of hardware and electrical schematics.
- 3+ years experience in firmware development and test.
- 3+ years Experience in C, C++ programming.
- Experience using oscilloscope to and “Logic Analyzers” to test and troubleshoot data flow and timing in embedded systems.
- Ability to read and interpret board schematics.
- Experience in CCD/CMOS sensor operation and “Bus Analyzer” not required but highly desirable.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats.
